Questions readers and authors ask

For readers

Do I have to write a review?

No. You don't have to review, rate, or even finish a book. If you'd like to share your thoughts, we'll send you links when the book comes out.

Can I review on Amazon?

Yes, if Amazon lets your account post reviews. Amazon requires reviewers to have spent at least $50 on Amazon.com in the past 12 months. Reviews of advance copies won't show the "Verified Purchase" badge, which is normal. Please mention in your review that you received a free advance copy.

How do I read a book on my Kindle?

Choose EPUB and use Amazon's Send to Kindle, by email or from the Kindle app. Each download page walks you through it.

Why is my name on every page?

Each copy is marked for the reader who requested it. That protects authors from casual file sharing, which is what makes them willing to give copies away.

The book has typos. Should I tell the author?

Please do, in your private note. Advance copies are uncorrected, and catching typos before release is a real help.

For authors

Will I get reviews?

Many readers do post reviews, but nothing guarantees it, and some will be mixed or critical. Reviews from advance copies don't carry Amazon's "Verified Purchase" badge, and Amazon doesn't say how it weighs or filters them. They give a book an early start; over time most of a book's reviews should come from readers who bought or borrowed it.

My book is in KDP Select. Can I list it?

KDP Select requires your ebook to be exclusive to Amazon. Copies here go only to individually approved readers through private links, never as a public download, but please check your own KDP terms before listing. We can't promise how Amazon will read them.

Can I ask readers for reviews?

You can say you'd welcome an honest review. You can't require one, ask for a positive one, or offer anything in exchange. We send readers the release-day reminder for you.

Should I send copies to friends and family through the site?

No. Amazon removes reviews from people it sees as close to the author.
